Evacuations and returns home

112 evacuation alerts across the Gulf of Corinth settlements.
Alepochori, Psatha, Veniza, Loumpa, Zachouli, Agia Paraskevi, Kryo Pigadi and Agios Nektarios were all ordered to evacuate in the early hours of 2 August. Residents of Psatha were moved to Alepochori and Megara.

Six villages evacuated towards Argostoli.
112 alerts overnight into 2 August ordered Kateleios, Markopoulo and Kremmydi to Argostoli, followed by Chionata, Thiramonas and Mavrata.

Villages around Porto Germeno and Psatha evacuated by 112 alert.
Evacuation orders were issued through the night of 31 July and into 1 August for Agia Paraskevi, Agios Nektarios and Kryo Pigadi, alongside earlier alerts for Porto Germeno, Livadostra and Domvraina. Treat the whole coastal strip as off limits until authorities say otherwise.

Seven settlements evacuated in Fokida, near Eupalio.
A separate fire that started at Skaloma on 1 August prompted 112 evacuation alerts for Klima, Pigi, Koukkoura, Nea Koukkoura, Magoula, Peukaki and Eupalio, with residents directed towards Peukaki and Eupalio. Reports of damage to houses at Klima.

Villages above Aigio evacuated by 112 alert.
Alerts went out shortly after 01:00 on 1 August for Neos Erineos and Arravonitsa, with further orders for Synania, Agioi Theodoroi and Lidoriki as the front spread. Residents were directed towards the Athens to Patras national road and towards Selianitika.

Seven settlements around Efpalio evacuated.
112 alerts covered Klima, Pigi, Koukoura, Nea Koukoura, Magoula, Pefkaki and Efpalio after the fire started at Skaloma on 1 August.
Roads

Old national road between Argos and Corinth, closed at Fichti.
Shut in both directions during the fire beside Mycenae. No confirmation yet that it has reopened, so check locally before using it. The motorway between Corinth and Argos was not reported closed.

Aigaleo peripheral road diverted towards Attiki Odos.
Closed on 31 July with police diversions onto Athinon Avenue towards Athens at the peripheral and Aigaleo junction. By 19:02 that evening traffic had been restored around Chaidari and the Athinon Avenue and Schisto Avenue diversions were lifted, leaving only the diversion on the peripheral towards Attiki Odos, with no later notice either way. The Attiki Odos motorway itself was not reported closed.
Campsites, hotels and holiday accommodation

Homes destroyed around Porto Germeno.
More than a hundred homes have been reported lost near Porto Germeno. Treat accommodation on this stretch of coast as unavailable unless the property itself confirms otherwise.

Hotels and tourist accommodation at Kateleios cleared.
Visitors were moved to safer parts of the island during the overnight evacuation.

Homes and holiday properties destroyed or damaged around Porto Germeno.
The deputy mayor of Mandra estimated more than 100 homes burned or damaged; some later reports put the figure nearer 150. Anyone with a rental booked on this coast should assume it may be unusable and contact the owner.
Power and water

Power and water out in six villages.
Skala, Kateleios, Ratzakli, Markopoulo, Pastra and Kremmydi are on a second day without electricity and water. Contact accommodation before arriving.

Power cut in the south of the island.
Reported on 29 July while the fire was running south. No source consulted reports how long supply was out.
Access closures: forests, beaches, trails and water

Beaches at Agios Vasileios and Porto Germeno cut off by land, people taken out by boat.
More than 200 people were evacuated by sea from Agios Vasileios, about 80km north-west of Athens, and a further group was lifted off the beach at Porto Germeno by coast guard and fire service vessels after road access was lost. Do not plan to drive into this coast.

Mycenae archaeological site.
The fire burned immediately beside the site. No formal closure of Mycenae has been announced in the sources reviewed, but access could be restricted at short notice. Check on the day.

Damage to farmland and public infrastructure on the west of the island.
The mayor described significant destruction, mainly to crops and to public infrastructure, with the council still assessing after the fire was declared under control on 31 July. Walking routes and rural access near Palaiopoli may be affected, so ask locally rather than assuming a path is open.
What the authorities have said

Agios Vasileios in Rethymno is under a civil protection state of emergency after the 29 July fire.
Declared by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection for three months, to 29 October 2026, to speed recovery works and funding. It is an administrative measure for the aftermath, not a sign the fire is burning.

Still burning on a fourth day.
The fire service described the main fronts on the morning of 3 August as north east of Psatha and at Kandili, with road closures in the fire area and further damage to homes. Aerial water drops resumed after wind had grounded or limited aircraft over much of the weekend.

Burnt ground above Arravonitsa confirmed from satellite.
Copernicus burnt area mapping confirms a substantial burn on the hillside above Arravonitsa dated 31 July. Detection counts here fell sharply into 3 August, which reflects ground that has already burned rather than a fire that has been put out.

Fire still active on a fourth day with fronts near Psatha and Kandili.
The fire service described the main fronts on the morning of 3 August as north east of Psatha and at Kandili, with fronts also reported at Agios Nektarios and towards Megara, road closures in the fire area and further damage to homes.

Main fire no longer running.
No active front as of 3 August; a 44-year-old was arrested for intentional arson. Flare-up risk remains in burnt ground.

Fire still active on the north shore.
Reporting on 2 August described the fire as active with around sixty firefighters and fifteen vehicles committed, and no major settlement under immediate threat.

Evacuations and returns home

Fichti, in Argolida, evacuated towards Argos.
The fire that burned farmland and olive groves next to Mycenae was reported brought under control, with crews and water tankers remaining on site overnight for flare-ups. Homes and farmland were lost.

112 evacuation alert for Palaiopoli.
Issued at 14:31 on 30 July, directing people from Palaiopoli towards Batsi as a precaution, with Kolympos covered as well. The fire was declared under control on 31 July.

Reports of people taken off the shore by boat.
A single wider round-up on 31 July describes coastguard, fishing and private boats moving people away from fire-threatened shores on Andros and other islands.

112 messages for two Chaidari areas.
Evacuation messages were sent for Afaia Chaidariou and Ano Dasos Chaidariou on 31 July. The front was delimited that night and nothing since has reported the fire burning.

112 evacuation messages for ten settlements in the south of Paros.
Sent between 28 and 30 July for Agios Charalampos, Kampi, Bougados, Aneratza, Kamari, Angairia, Trypiti, Glyfa, Pyrgaki and Aspro Chorio. People were directed to Aliki, and Aspro Chorio to Dryos on 30 July. The last of the five messages followed a reignition that afternoon.
What the authorities have said

The Rethymno regional unit thanked the crews who fought the Agios Vasileios fire.
Published by the Region of Crete on 3 August, with a further note on 4 August thanking those who worked on the extinguishing of the island fires. No road closure, evacuation or access restriction is recorded as in force.

112 readiness message for the Vathy area.
Sent at about 17:00 on 30 July, telling people in the Vathy area of the Kalymnos regional unit to stay ready and follow instructions from the authorities. No evacuation was ordered. The mayor said on 31 July that the fire had gone out.
