Advertising and affiliate links
Last updated 5 August 2026.
The short version
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something through one, this site is paid a commission by the seller. It costs you nothing extra, and it never changes what we tell you about a fire.
How you can tell
Every affiliate link on this site sits inside a block marked Ad, with a line underneath saying we may earn a commission. There are no affiliate links hidden inside the safety text, inside a map, inside a warning, or inside the list of official sources. If a link is not inside a block marked Ad, nobody is paying us for it.
What it does not affect
This matters more than the disclosure itself, so it is worth being exact about it.
- Which fires we cover, and which regions get a page.
- Which sources we treat as authoritative. Those are civil protection agencies, préfectures and national meteorological services, and no commercial partner can buy a place among them.
- The wording of any warning, the status of any region, or anything on a map.
- Whether a road, a railway or a campsite is reported as closed.
Advertising pays for the site. It does not get a say in it. If those two things ever came into conflict, the safety content wins, and if it could not, we would drop the partner.
Who we work with
Affiliate partnerships are arranged through Awin, an affiliate network. Awin records that a click came from this site so the commission can be attributed. We also tag each link with a short code naming the page it was on, so we can tell which pages are useful. That code contains nothing about you: no name, no email, no identifier, nothing taken from your visit.
Advertising that is not affiliate
The site also carries Google AdSense display advertising, which works differently: those adverts are chosen by Google, not by us, and we are paid for them being shown rather than for anything you buy. See the privacy page for what that means for cookies and data.
