Valencia Wildfire Risk: Should I Travel?

What is happening

A fire that started on the hillside above La Vall d'Uixó around midday on 25 July burned through the Serra d'Espadà natural park. The Guardia Civil's Seprona unit found two separate ignition points close together and ruled out both a natural cause and an escaped agricultural burn. It was declared stabilised on 31 July and the emergency was dropped from the second level to the first that afternoon.

What it means if you are travelling

No Costa del Azahar resort was in the fire zone or evacuated. Castellón city, Benicàssim, Peñíscola and Oropesa del Mar were not the fire, though smoke and ash reached Castellón city, Vila-real and Benicàssim on 27 July with public health advice issued, and the smell reached Valencia city the day before. Every closure was on inland CV roads in the hills. The A-7 near Nules was affected by smoke but stayed open, the Cercanías C-6 kept running, and no disruption was reported at Valencia airport.

Check locally: La Vall d'Uixó / Nules fire, Castellón. Declared stabilised on 31 July after burning through the Vall d'Uixó, Artana, Eslida, Tales and Nules area. It was still listed as stabilised rather than extinguished on 3 August, with crews holding it under intensive surveillance. (as of 2026-08-03)
Restriction lifted: All evacuated and confined municipalities. The final 2,800 residents of Artana and Eslida returned home on 31 July, the day the fire was declared stabilised. No municipality remains evacuated or confined. (as of 2026-07-31)
Check locally: Countryside and forest tracks in the burnt municipalities. The regional forestry authority asked people to avoid driving or walking the roads and tracks of the affected municipalities and to avoid recreational activity there until the fire is declared extinguished, citing the risk of falling trees. Advice in force: Serra d'Espadà natural park. Around 40 per cent of the burnt area lies inside the park, amounting to roughly 12 per cent of its protected surface. Artana is the worst affected municipality. (as of 2026-08-02)
Check locally: Level 3 pre-emergency restrictions. When the Generalitat declares level 3 pre-emergency, vehicles, bikes and pedestrians are banned from forest tracks in Serra d'Espadà and other parks, authorised sporting events on forest land are suspended, and campsites and hostels on forest land may not run activities outside their own grounds.
