Evacuations and returns home

Seven urbanisations not yet cleared for return.
Residents of seven urbanisations at Pelayos de la Presa and San Martin de Valdeiglesias have still not been cleared to return. The Comunidad de Madrid page carried no new update after the morning of 3 August.
Roads

M-957 cut from km 0 to 5.750.
The Comunidad de Madrid says 175 km of road have reopened and that the M-957 is the only one still cut. The DGT live incident list still showed it closed in both directions for the fire on the morning of 4 August. The M-507, M-512 and M-539 are no longer listed as closed by either source.

CC-167 at Casas de Millan cut from km 0 to 2.8.
Still listed as closed in both directions for the fire on the DGT live list on the morning of 4 August, and closed since the early hours of 2 August. The Junta said on 2 August that the roads it had closed were open again, so treat this one local road as the exception and check DGT before it.
Access closures: forests, beaches, trails and water

San Juan reservoir bathing and boats banned.
Swimming and navigation are banned at the San Juan reservoir and Playa del Alberche. The Guardia Civil is holding the accesses shut and six bus lines are skipping stops in the area.

Arribes del Duero natural park above Fermoselle.
A large area of the park has burnt and crews remain deployed on the perimeter. The fire reactivated on the afternoon of 1 August near Mamoles, where the vertical gorge walls block ground access, and again on 2 August in rough ground near the Portuguese border. Treat trails and viewpoints as unreliable until confirmed locally.

Countryside and forest tracks in the burnt municipalities.
The regional forestry authority asked people to avoid driving or walking the roads and tracks of the affected municipalities and to avoid recreational activity there until the fire is declared extinguished, citing the risk of falling trees.

The fire burned standing woodland rather than open scrub. Treat the slopes there as unstable ground.

Burnt hillside around the parish of Ínsua.
The fire ran mostly through wooded slopes. Treat tracks across the burn as unstable ground rather than as a fire risk.
Parks and reserves

Serra d'Espadà natural park.
Around 40 per cent of the burnt area lies inside the park, amounting to roughly 12 per cent of its protected surface. Artana is the worst affected municipality.
What the authorities have said

Summer fire risk stays high.
The Infoex director general said on 3 August that the vegetation is dry enough to keep the risk across Extremadura high. AEMET had no weather warning in force for Caceres or Badajoz in its bulletin of 4 August, so the heatwave warnings of late July have ended.

Extreme wildfire risk across the Spanish interior.
AEMET warned of extreme fire danger across much of interior Spain during the heatwave that began on 29 July, and has extended its warnings past the original 2 August end date.

Latest incident in Lugo province: Palas de Rei, controlled on 3 August.
The fire in the parish of Cuíña at Palas de Rei started at 17:58 on 2 August and was declared controlled at 14:58 on 3 August. It stayed away from homes.

Rain returned to Galicia on 3 August.
AEMET forecast precipitation spreading across Galicia from 3 August with maximum temperatures falling across the peninsula, and forecasters expected the unsettled pattern to hold through the week.

Level 3 pre-emergency restrictions.
When the Generalitat declares level 3 pre-emergency, vehicles, bikes and pedestrians are banned from forest tracks in Serra d'Espadà and other parks, authorised sporting events on forest land are suspended, and campsites and hostels on forest land may not run activities outside their own grounds. This has been declared repeatedly through summer 2026; check whether it is active on your travel date.

Fire at Merille declared extinguished on 31 July.
Declared at 13:35 on 29 July, stabilised at 03:12 on 30 July, controlled at 13:36 on 30 July and extinguished at 19:49 on 31 July. No evacuation or road closure was reported at any stage.
The fires themselves

Burgohondo fire, severity level 2.
Active at level 2, the top of the Castilla y León scale, in every daily report since it started at 13:02 on 22 July, including the report published at 19:00 on 4 August. Burnt area still recorded as being surveyed, cause still under investigation.

The Junta de Castilla y Leon daily fire report of 3 August at 19:00 still lists the Burgohondo fire, which started on 22 July, as active at severity level 2. That is the fire that ran into the Sierra Oeste.

La Vall d'Uixó / Nules fire, Castellón.
Declared stabilised on 31 July after burning through the Vall d'Uixó, Artana, Eslida, Tales and Nules area. It was still listed as stabilised rather than extinguished on 3 August, with crews holding it under intensive surveillance.

Veguellina fire, Villafranca del Bierzo.
Started on the afternoon of 29 July when a utility pole came down and its cable ignited the ground, and was raised to the second severity level the same day. The perimeter was secured by 2 August and the Junta dropped it to level zero on the morning of 3 August. The regional active-fire list showed no fire burning in the Bierzo municipalities on 3 August.

San Cipriano del Condado fire, Vegas del Condado.
Declared at 14:38 on 29 July and raised to the second severity level within about an hour. It ran between San Cipriano and Represa del Condado into Castro del Condado. The Junta logged it stabilised on 30 July, level 0 on 31 July and controlled at 21:28 on 2 August. The bulletin of 3 August at 19:00 still has it controlled rather than extinguished.

Evacuations and returns home

Villages cleared in Vega de Espinareda and Toreno.
Around 300 people left Prado de la Somoza, Moreda, San Pedro de Olleros, San Martin de Moreda and Valle de Finolledo for the pavilion at Cacabelos, and Valdelaloba and Pradilla for the Toreno sports hall. Power was lost in 14 localities. Everyone was back home by 1 August.

Evacuated villages in Sayago.
Residents of the evacuated villages returned home and the reception centres were stood down on 1 August.

All evacuated and confined municipalities.
The final 2,800 residents of Artana and Eslida returned home on 31 July, the day the fire was declared stabilised. No municipality remains evacuated or confined.

312 residents evacuated from the Condado villages.
Santa Maria del Condado, Castro del Condado, Barrillos de Curueno and the Montesol development were cleared on 29 July. Everyone was home again on 30 July.

About 500 people confined indoors.
Confinement applied at Masllorenç, Masarbones and the Font d'en Talló and Pineda de Santa Cristina developments, and lifted once the fire was stabilised the same evening.

Twelve Ávila localities cleared to return home on 29 July.
La Adrada, Gavilanes, Casavieja, Casillas, El Hoyo de Pinares, Piedralaves, Mijares, Navahondilla, Santa María del Tiétar, Sotillo de la Adrada, Villanueva de Ávila and the Urbanización La Atalaya at El Tiemblo. Confinement was lifted at El Tiemblo and Cebreros the same day.
Roads

N-621 near Vegas del Condado.
Closed on 29 July while the fire was running, and open again. The DGT live incident list on the morning of 4 August carried no fire closure anywhere on the N-621. The only entries on that road are a rockfall narrowing at Cremenes dating from February and roadworks between km 107 and km 117 at Boca de Huergano. No dated reopening notice was published, so this rests on the DGT live list rather than on a statement.

A-66 through Caceres province is running.
The DGT live list on the morning of 4 August showed no fire closure anywhere on the A-66 in Caceres province, only routine roadworks well away from the fire ground.

Every road in Ávila province reopened at 15:00 on 29 July.
Thirteen provincial and national roads were cut at the peak, including the N-403 and the AV-P-703 between Sotillo de la Adrada and Casillas. All circulation restrictions in the province were removed from 15:00 on 29 July. The national fire closure dashboard generated at 00:40 on 5 August lists no Ávila road.

A-6 towards A Coruna at Vega de Valcarce.
The San Tirso fire, which started on the afternoon of 30 July, forced the A-6 to be cut towards A Coruna, with lorries diverted at kilometre 400 onto the N-120 and cars at kilometre 419 onto the N-6. The motorway reopened first on a bypass and then fully once the fire dropped to the lowest level.

Roads around Fermoselle and the Sayago villages.
All roads closed during the fire were reopened on 1 August. Local cuts had included the Fermoselle to Trabanca road and the accesses to Pinilla and Mámoles.

TV-2041, TV-2042 and part of the C-51Z closed.
The TV-2041 and TV-2042 were closed completely and the C-51Z between kilometres 17 and 20 on 29 July. Closures applied while the fire was active and were lifted after it stabilised.
What the authorities have said

Village confinements lifted.
Lifted at 20:45 on 2 August. The Monfragüe to Caceres rail service was restored and the Junta stood down its level-one Infoex and Infocaex alert on 3 August with the fire stabilised.
