Tolmezzo, Amaro and Monte Amariana Wildfire Risk: Should I Travel?

Friuli Venezia Giulia declared a regional emergency for the Carnia fires on 14 August. The Monte Amariana fire above Amaro is still burning, and the Sasso Tagliato road between Tolmezzo and Amaro has been shut since the afternoon of 13 August.

Short answer: Messaggero Veneto reported on 14 August that the president of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, and the regional councillor Riccardo Riccardi signed a regional emergency declaration for the wildfires at Palmanova. The fire on Monte Amariana, above Amaro, was described as still active in steep ground thick with vegetation, with firefighting still under way. One Canadair, three Slovenian Air Tractors, five helicopters and around thirty volunteers were committed. Prima Friuli reported on 13 August that the regional road S.R. UD 125 del Sasso Tagliato had been closed between Tolmezzo and Amaro from half past two that afternoon, between kilometre 0.250 and kilometre 3.100, with traffic sent round by the SS 52 Carnica, and that reopening depended on the slope being made safe. The rock is the reason: fire has taken out the trees above the road and there is nothing left holding the stones. Air quality readings taken in the afternoon showed local exceedances at Imponzo, a fraction of Tolmezzo, and at Zuglio, Arta Terme and Sutrio, and people were asked to take ordinary precautions.
