Cirò Marina, Crotone coast Wildfire Risk: Should I Travel?

A vegetation fire ran on several fronts at Cirò Marina on 26 July, with two Canadair overhead and crews put on protecting houses and school buildings. Satellites picked up fresh heat here on 12 August and nobody has explained it.

Short answer: Il Crotonese and CN24 both reported on 26 July that a large vegetation fire was burning at Cirò Marina, in the province of Crotone, on several fronts at once. The Crotone fire service worked it with a director of firefighting operations, two crews from the provincial command and the Cirò Marina detachment, a vehicle dedicated to forest fires, and two civil protection volunteer crews, with two Canadair aircraft making repeated drops. Both reports say the ground crews' absolute priority was securing the inhabited areas and putting a protective line around school buildings, and that much of the burning ground could not be reached from the road, so the aircraft were what stopped the spread. At the time of those reports the damping down and firefighting were still going on and the alert level was still at its maximum. That is the last thing anybody published about the stage of this fire. Satellite detections placed fresh heat on this ground on 12 August, more than a fortnight later, and no source names a new fire here.
