Open this page in Safari

It has to be the real Safari app — not a browser inside Mail, Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. If you got here from a link in another app, tap the ⋯ or compass icon and choose Open in Safari, or just type europefiremap.com into Safari yourself.

Tap the round ⋯ button, then “Share”

Tap the box showing europefiremap.com at the bottom of your screen so the full bar appears, tap the round ⋯ button to its right, then tap Share at the top of the menu.

Older Safari instead shows a row of icons at the bottom — there, just tap the square with an arrow pointing up (Share).

Tap “View More”, then “Add to Home Screen”

The share menu slides up — check it shows europefiremap.com at the top. Below the apps is a row of round buttons ending in View More (a circle with a down arrow). Tap it, and “Add to Home Screen” is in the list that opens. On some iPhones it's in the share menu straight away — just scroll down.

Tap “Add” — done

A screen appears showing Fire Map and the address. Leave “Open as Web App” switched on (green), then tap Add in the top corner. The flame lands on your home screen — open the map from there from now on and it runs full-screen like any app.

“Add to Home Screen” isn't in the menu?

  1. Check the top of the share menu: if it says “Image” under the title, you're sharing a screenshot, not this page — and images never get the option. Close it and start again from the ⋯ button on the address bar (step 2). The preview should show this page's title, not a picture.
  2. In the share menu, did you tap View More (the round button with a down arrow, after Copy and Bookmarks)? On most iPhones “Add to Home Screen” only appears in that expanded list — and you may still need to scroll to the bottom of it.
  3. Still missing? Tap Edit Actions… at the very bottom of that same menu. If “Add to Home Screen” is listed there, tap the green + next to it — it was switched off on your phone. Then tap Done and reopen the Share menu.
  4. If it's not even in Edit Actions, a Screen Time rule is hiding it: go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases → Installing Apps → Allow. When installing apps is blocked, iPhone hides “Add to Home Screen” too.
  5. Make sure you're in a normal Safari tab — not Private Browsing, and not a browser embedded in another app.

If nothing happens

Tap the ⋮ menu (top-right of Chrome) and choose “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”, then confirm. The flame icon appears on your home screen.

Use the install icon in the address bar

In Chrome or Edge, look at the right-hand end of the address bar for a small install icon (a screen with a down arrow), or open the browser menu and choose “Install Europe Fire Map”. The map opens in its own window from then on.

After installing: open the app from its icon once, then tap “Get evacuation alerts on this device” at the bottom of the map page — that's what lets us reach you if a fire starts moving near where you are.
