Can I Cancel My Holiday Because Of Wildfires?

A practical first-check page for travellers whose destination, campsite, flight, ferry, hotel or package holiday may be affected by wildfires.

Short answer: maybe, but the answer usually depends on who cancelled, whether official advice changed, whether your exact accommodation or route is unavailable, and what your booking terms or insurance policy say. Do not rely on a map marker alone as evidence for cancellation.

What to check first

Official advice

Check FCDO advice and local authority instructions for the exact place, not only the country headline.

Provider status

Ask the airline, ferry operator, hotel, villa owner, campsite or package organiser whether the service is operating.

Access and safety

A place can be open while a road, forest, beach, campsite gate or local attraction is closed.

Policy wording

Look for cancellation, curtailment, natural disaster, evacuation, known-event and travel-against-advice clauses.

What counts as useful evidence?

Europe Fire Map is travel decision support, not an emergency service or an official incident feed. Conditions can change faster than this page. Follow local authorities, accommodation providers and emergency services first. In danger anywhere in the EU, call 112.
